Consultant drilling fluids engineer on sem-submersibles operating in the Bay of Espiritu Santo and the Bay of Campos off the coast of Brazil; and onshore operations in northeastern Brazil.

Initially engaged in the drilling fluids aspects of offshore drilling operations on semis and jack ups for Pemex in the Bay of Campeche; I later became Operations Supervisor and Technical consultant for drilling fluids for the whole of Latin America.
Some of the tasks performed on a routine basis during this period were:
- Developed client relations, focused on drilling fluids programs and provided optimum technical and cost effective solutions to drilling fluids questions as they occured.
- Prepared drilling fluids programs for clients.
- Analyzed the chemical and physical properties of drilling fluids.
- Prepared daily drilling fluids reports.
- Supervised all activities related to drilling fluids paying particular attention to safety and environmental aspects.
- Ensured that an optimum stock of chemicals and other mud materials were on hand at all times taking care not to exceed the load limits for semis and jack ups.
- Performed all of the duties necessary for proper inventory management.
- Prepared new drilling fluid, using a special formulation, as required by the rate of penetration.
- Trained new drilling fluids engineers.

- Drilling Fluids Supervisor on Lake Maracaibo. Focused on the chemistry of drilling fluids.
- Prepared reports for the client.
- Paid liaison visits to the client every day.
- Received daily reports from the rigs, maintained an optimum supply of all mud materials on the rigs.
